Welcome to the Living Classroom

The Living Classroom Nursery is a non-profit horticulture campus providing life skills to the homeless and plant science workshops for the general public.

We currently have  native California plant starts and veggie starts available for sale in our nursery.  We also specialize in butterfly and hummingbird necturing plants that attract amazing beneficial wildlife to your garden. The Living Classroom has been officially acknowledge as a Monarch Weighstation.

We offer special tours for elementary school classes focusing on the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. This is a new project we have begun in conjunction with the Western Monarch Guardians. To book a class tour please call us at (714)229-0585 or reach out directly to our monarch docents Joe and Pricilla at (714)754-5464. There is a small fee for each class tour that helps support our program.

In our green house we teach  propagation workshops focused on California Natives and other drought tolerant plants. We also use the green house to grow healing foods for our community garden and culinary garden projects.

Healing Plants in the Green House

This spring we invite you to come out for  our: “April Blooming Day Open House Activities, Tours and Mini-Planting Events.”

For the entire month of April 2012 our native plant gardens are in full bloom and we want to share them with you!  Check out the Calendar link here. There is no cost to attend  most of these public events but donations always support our program and are deeply appreciated.

We also offer internships for students in the horticulture science field. These unpaid interships give the student the opputunity to participate in a working nursery with out a full time commitment. We currently have two positions at 5 to 10 hours a week availble for the correct candidate. Call Steve Harding at 714-655-2928 to apply.

Northern Native California Meadow

Please come visit our property and experience a California Native garden tour that will open your mind to how beautiful a water conserving landscape  can be. We guarantee you will be inspired to help the environment by planting native plants that encourage native butterflies and hummingbirds.
